Design Technology gives pupils the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge, capability and understanding of designing and making functional products.
It is vital to nurture creativity and innovation through design, and by exploring the designed and made world in which we all live and work.
In Design Technology, pupils acquire and apply knowledge and understanding of materials and components, mechanisms, structures, existing products, quality and health and safety. They are encouraged to be creative and innovative, and are actively encouraged to think about important issues such as sustainability and enterprise.
Design Technology is often one of a pupil’s favourite subjects. Pupils like making decisions for themselves and doing practical work. They love creating products they can see and touch for themselves. They feel proud to have done so. Overall the pupils get a chance to explore basic engineering and architectural skills.
