Expert coaching coupled with the huge pride the boys have in representing their school undoubtedly gives them the edge and makes them formidable opponents.
Good Schools Guide

Rugby is one of Shrewsbury House School’s main core sports. It is delivered in both the autumn and spring terms with matches being played throughout the winter months.

The sport, like Football and Cricket, is deemed of great value to the boys and, as such, all the boys will play Rugby. Probably more than any other sport or activity the development of Rugby has benefitted most from the construction of our new All Weather Surface. Built to International Rugby Board (IRB) standards, it is possible for the boys to participate in full training and competitive matches on a surface unaffected by the weather. When delivering a sport throughout the unpredictable winter months this facility’s positive impact for the boys and their rugby cannot be underestimated. Three senior grass pitches at Almshouse Lane complete the facility for Rugby at Shrewsbury House School.

Touring is ingrained in the culture of sport (and especially Rugby) and Shrewsbury House School maintains this through a variety of organised trips and tours. As far as Rugby is concerned, the senior boys regularly travel to Dublin in the Winter and South Africa at Easter time (every two years). This trip is open to all senior boys and is an opportunity for boys from different school teams to play together on a sporting and cultural adventure.

Although we like to celebrate the development and enjoyment of players in the school’s “E” and “F” teams we like to take pride also in the tournament success of the top teams. In recent months teams from Shrewsbury House School have won local, Regional and National titles on the Rugby field. A full programme of Rugby 7s, including National competition, is also undertaken.

We are delighted to be one of the pioneer schools in the Return2Play programme - http://return2play.org.uk

Shrewsbury House School’s Head of Rugby is Dan Leek, a former professional player with London Wasps and London Scottish and a RFU Community Coach. Dan leads an extremely talented, experienced and motivated staff.
